Maju Forest is a mature secondary forest in Sunset Way. 15 of its 23 hectares are proposed for clearing to make way for public housing — home to Critically Endangered species and decades of irreplaceable ecology. There is a better way to build.

The formal Environmental Impact Assessment feedback window closed on6 August 2026. But HDB's general written channel stays open — you can still send your views, and we're urging HDB to reopen the formal window so more residents can be heard. Under "Category of Feedback", choose "Land Use Plans".
This is not unprecedented
Public feedback has changed plans before.
In 2021, roughly 1,800 residents spoke up for Dover Forest — and the plans changed, preserving part of the forest. At Tengah, where only16 responses came in, clearing went ahead.
The lesson is simple: numbers matter, and it is not too late. Master Plans have been redrawn before — Sungei Buloh and Chek Jawa were both once slated for development, and both were saved. Maju can be next.
Housing serves Singapore for decades. A forest, if given the chance, serves Singapore for centuries.
What clearing Maju would destroy
A living ecosystem, decades in the making.
Maju is home to the Sunda pangolin and thestraw-headed bulbul — both Critically Endangered, both documented in the government's own environmental studies. A mature forest cools the neighbourhood, cleans the air, and offers people a rare place of quiet. None of it can be replanted overnight.
