What the petition asks
Five demands.
- 01Pause forest clearance and publish the environmental studies before any tender is called.
- 02Prioritise brownfield development — golf courses and ageing industrial sites — before clearing forest.
- 03Renew the adjacent 1984 housing estate to cut forest clearance from 15 hectares to roughly 6–8.
- 04Protect Maju and Clementi Forests as a single connected greenway.
- 05Assess forest loss cumulatively across Singapore, not project by project.
Why it matters
In 2021, around 1,800 residents advocated for Dover Forest — and secured its partial preservation. At Tengah, with just 16 responses, clearing went ahead. Public voice changes outcomes.
Both the straw-headed bulbul and theSunda pangolin — Critically Endangered — live in Maju Forest, documented in the government's own environmental studies.
